Do I need to wait until my puppy knows basic commands to book a photo session?

Spoiler alert: not at all! And here’s why.
When you bring a puppy home, everything happens so fast — the first discoveries, the little mischiefs, the wide curious eyes, the clumsy little runs… This unique stage flies by in the blink of an eye, and it would be a shame to wait until they master "sit", "stay", or "come" before capturing it in photos.
I'm Maureen Flieller, a photographer specialized in dog photography, and I welcome you to my studio just 5 minutes from Biel, or outdoors if you prefer, to capture the adorable face of your pup — who's growing way too fast!

The photo session: a gentle and puppy-friendly experience
Every session with me is tailor-made, respectful of your dog’s rhythm and personality. I don’t expect a puppy to sit still or follow commands perfectly — quite the opposite, actually! My goal is to capture the authenticity of these early weeks, with all the spontaneity and freshness that make them so irresistible.
No obedience needed to be photogenic! All it takes is a little patience, a comforting environment, a few treats… and a kind eye behind the camera.
What I’m really after: genuine emotion
What I want to photograph isn’t perfect poses, but the connection between you, your puppy’s lively expressions, their adorable clumsiness, and those little moments of curiosity or cuddles. You can’t teach that with commands — it’s already there, naturally.
Of course, a few little tricks can help…
If your pup already knows their name or comes to you naturally, that’s a bonus. But if not — no worries, I adapt! I use toys, noises, treats, and I give your puppy time to get used to me and the camera. The best photos often come from the most unexpected moments.
Studio or outdoor session? You get to choose the vibe
Every family is unique — and so is every puppy. That’s why I offer photo sessions either in the studio or outdoors. The studio is a calm, bright, and safe environment, ideal for young puppies — even those a little shy. It allows for clean, tender, emotion-filled portraits.
Outdoors brings freedom and spontaneity — a field, a forest, a familiar garden… Natural settings highlight your pup’s energy and sense of adventure, and create lively, authentic images. Together, we choose what best fits your lifestyle, your preferences, and your puppy’s personality.
In short: the best time is now
Puppyhood is short — and precious. Don’t let it slip away thinking you should "wait until they’re older" or "a bit calmer". My role as a photographer is to capture the beauty of this moment, just as it is — with no pressure and no expectations. Ready to book the photo session of your puppy?!
